Pakistan Petroleum Limited Discovers New Gas Reserves in Sindh

Pakistan Petroleum Limited has reported a new gas discovery from its Dolphin X-1 exploration well in Sujawal, Sindh, adding to the country’s ongoing efforts to expand domestic energy resources.

The well was drilled to a depth of 3,850 metres to explore hydrocarbon potential within the Chiltan Formation. Following acid stimulation, testing recorded gas production of around 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day, with a heating value of approximately 1,000 Btu per standard cubic foot.

The well also showed initial condensate production, further supporting the presence of hydrocarbons in the area.

According to PPL, the discovery provides evidence of an active petroleum system in the region. This could encourage further exploration in the marshy onshore areas of Sujawal as well as nearby shallow offshore extensions.

The finding is significant for Pakistan as the country continues to seek additional local sources of oil and gas to reduce pressure on energy supplies and import requirements.

Further exploration around the discovery area could help determine the wider potential of the formation and identify additional resources.

The Dolphin X-1 discovery therefore represents not only a new source of gas but also a potential starting point for broader exploration activity in the region. Its results could help guide future drilling and investment in Sindh’s onshore and shallow offshore areas.
