Former PM Imran Khan Taken Back to Jail After Medical Check-up at Shifa International Hospital

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been taken back to prison after doctors found him medically fit following an overnight examination at a hospital in Islamabad.

The 73-year-old was assessed by a medical team that included specialists in eye care, cardiology and general medicine. The examination took place after the Supreme Court directed that Khan’s health be evaluated amid concerns regarding his medical condition and eyesight.

Khan’s sister, Azma Khan, was also present during the medical assessment. The examination was closely watched because of ongoing concerns about the former prime minister’s health while he remains in custody.

After completing the evaluation, doctors declared Khan fit to continue his detention, allowing authorities to return him to prison.

Khan has been in prison since 2023 and is facing more than 100 cases related to different legal matters. He and his supporters have repeatedly maintained that the cases against him are politically motivated, while authorities have continued with the legal proceedings.

Despite spending years in detention, Khan remains one of Pakistan’s most influential political figures and continues to have significant support among his political base.

His medical examination has also drawn attention to the broader situation surrounding his prolonged imprisonment and legal battles. The Supreme Court’s order for a health assessment came as questions were raised about his condition, particularly concerns related to his eyesight.

With the medical evaluation now completed and doctors declaring him fit, Khan has returned to prison as his legal cases continue. His health, court proceedings and political future are expected to remain subjects of public and political attention.
