Pakistan is set to establish its first local manufacturing plant for ballistic, or bulletproof, glass in Karachi. The project is being developed by Vanguard International Private Limited with support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). According to the company, the facility will be built at Bin Qasim Industrial Park and will produce ballistic glass for security and defence needs.
However, the reported investment is $50 million. The project is expected to help Pakistan reduce its dependence on imported ballistic glass and strengthen local defence manufacturing.
The company says the plant will combine Chinese technology with international standards. It is being designed to produce ballistic glass that meets NIJ and EN requirements for applications including defence, embassies, security vehicles, and other protected facilities.
The locally made glass is expected to support the requirements of the Pakistan Army and other security institutions. The project will also bring technology transfer and create employment for around 400 skilled workers.
