No More Routine Bank Visits? Pakistan Introduces Digital Pension Verification

Pakistan has launched a new digital pension verification system that allows pensioners to prove they are alive without regularly visiting a bank. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the digital Proof of Life certificate system on August 20, 2026, with support from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The system is designed to make pension verification easier for millions of retired government employees, especially older people and those who face difficulty travelling to banks. Under existing rules, pensioners receiving payments through bank accounts generally need to complete biometric verification every six months or provide an approved life certificate.

The new digital option allows eligible pensioners to complete the proof of life remotely using digital identity and biometric technology. The government says this will reduce paperwork, save time, and make pension payments more convenient.

How the new system works

  • Pensioners complete their digital proof of life remotely.
  • NADRA’s verification system confirms their identity.
  • Once verification is completed, the digital life certificate is automatically sent to the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), so pensioners don’t have to submit it separately.
  • Successful verification updates their pension record.
  • Pensioners no longer need routine bank visits for this verification.

Failure to complete the process could result in the pension account becoming dormant.
