China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has proposed a $522.34 million first phase for a new deep-water port at Keti Bunder, near Karachi. On 24 August 2026, company officials presented a Conceptual Master Plan to President Asif Ali Zardari.
The plan outlines a modern maritime gateway with multiple terminals, logistics facilities and supporting infrastructure. Phase One would feature a multi-purpose terminal with a 500-metre quay. CHEC’s team, led by Chief Representative Wu Ping, shared these details during the meeting.
President Zardari welcomed the proposal. He said Keti Bunder has strong potential as an extra maritime gateway that could strengthen Pakistan’s ports, improve connectivity and boost trade. He stressed an integrated approach, calling for road links, power, water supply and industrial facilities alongside the port. He also highlighted the need to protect the Indus Delta ecosystem and the livelihoods of local fishing communities.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other senior officials attended the meeting. The project remains at an early stage, with financing and implementation details still to be finalised.
