Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has said Pakistan’s estimated mineral wealth exceeds $7 trillion, highlighting the country’s vast potential in untapped natural resources.
Speaking at the Asia Society Policy Institute, Iqbal said political instability has discouraged international mining companies from investing in Pakistan.
He noted that large-scale mineral extraction requires substantial investment and long development periods.
Iqbal said greater economic stability could help attract foreign investors, including US companies, through strategic partnerships and financing opportunities.
He also raised concerns over Pakistan’s growing water-security challenges following India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
The country is expanding major reservoirs, including the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams, to improve water security and reduce future vulnerabilities.
