Petrol prices in Pakistan have climbed sharply, with the latest increase pushing the rate to Rs. 358.77 per litre and taking the total rise since July 22 to Rs. 38.04.
The government increased the petrol price by Rs. 12.90 per litre on September 8. The price of high-speed diesel also went up by Rs. 3.72, reaching Rs. 381.77 per litre.
Diesel has recorded a total increase of Rs. 14.56 per litre since July, adding to the growing fuel costs faced by consumers, transporters and businesses.
The latest prices were determined by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and are applicable from September 8.
Another major factor adding to the cost of petroleum products is the petroleum levy, which remains at Rs80 per litre for both petrol and diesel.
The continued increase in fuel prices is expected to put additional pressure on household budgets and transportation costs. Higher diesel prices can also affect businesses and industries that depend on fuel for the movement of goods and daily operations.
The latest hike comes amid an ongoing regional crisis that has added further uncertainty to energy markets and fuel costs.
With petrol now approaching Rs. 360 per litre and diesel crossing Rs. 380, consumers are facing significantly higher fuel expenses compared with July.
The sharp rise over the past several weeks has renewed concerns about the impact of petroleum prices on inflation, transport fares and the overall cost of living.
The new rates will remain effective for the current pricing period, while future changes will depend on international oil prices, government decisions and other factors considered during the next fuel price review.
