A large crater has appeared on Lahore’s newly constructed Structure Plan Road in Johar Town, raising concerns about construction standards and the effectiveness of inspection procedures.
The incident has drawn attention because the road was completed only a few months ago.
The 1.5-kilometre road connects Shadiwal Chowk with Wapda Town Roundabout and Ghaffar Chowk. The project was completed around four months ago at an estimated cost of Rs. 455.9 million. LDA officials clarified that the road itself did not collapse.
According to the LDA, the crater formed after the crown of a 20-foot-deep sewerage pipeline owned by PIA Housing Society failed, causing the ground above it to sink.
The authority has directed its Engineering Wing to recover Rs. 4.1 million from the society, while local residents have called for a detailed investigation into the incident.
