The post makes it clear that the Tim Cook in question is not Apple’s former CEO. Instead, it refers to another man named Tim Cook from Palmerston North, New Zealand. Samsung used the coincidence to promote its Galaxy Z Fold 8 and poke fun at Apple’s move into the foldable phone market.
The joke comes shortly after Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. Starting at $1,999, the foldable iPhone marks Apple’s entry into a market where Samsung has been a major player since 2019. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899.
Samsung has also used other posts and advertisements to highlight its earlier experience with foldable phones. The company has mocked Apple for entering the category late, while promoting the thinner, lighter design of its latest Galaxy foldables.
