Pakistan’s Power Division says measures taken to manage electricity demand during nighttime hours helped prevent an additional burden of Rs. 10.6 billion on consumers in August 2026.
Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the measures also helped lower the Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for August to around Rs. 1.73 per unit, compared with Rs. 2.0851 per unit for July. The figures were shared by the minister on September 15.
Leghari said better fuel management, greater use of locally available energy and additional domestic gas supplies reduced the need for expensive imported fuels. This also helped save foreign exchange, according to the minister.
The government has used nighttime load management as part of efforts to control generation costs. Consumers’ reduced electricity use during selected hours helped lower the amount of costly fuel needed for power generation.
The FCA is a monthly adjustment that reflects changes in the cost of fuel used to produce electricity. A lower FCA can reduce the additional amount charged to consumers through electricity bills.
The Power Division says the latest measures are aimed at reducing fuel costs while managing pressure on the power system.
