Pakistan’s Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has said that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will jointly decide their response if any member of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement comes under attack.
Speaking in an interview with Al Arabiya English, Chaudhry explained that the agreement does not automatically set out a specific military response. Instead, the three countries would assess an attack and agree on a course of action together.
He described the agreement as a defensive arrangement focused on collective deterrence, regional peace and stability. He also said it has no offensive or aggressive purpose and is not directed against any particular country.
The comments come amid heightened tensions after Saudi Arabia reported intercepting a drone south of Makkah. Saudi officials attributed the incident to Yemen’s Houthi movement, while the Houthis denied targeting Makkah.
The Makkah agreement was signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in August 2026. Its members are continuing discussions on how the pact will be implemented in practice.
