Worshippers Offer Special Prayers for Harmain’s Protection at Masjid al-Haram

Worshippers at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah offered special prayers for the protection of the Two Holy Mosques following reports of a drone being intercepted near the holy city.

The prayers took place amid heightened security concerns after Saudi Arabia said its air defence forces destroyed a drone south of Makkah on Tuesday, September 15. Saudi officials said the drone was intercepted before it entered the city’s restricted airspace. The Houthis, however, denied targeting Makkah.

Videos and posts circulating online showed worshippers making supplications at the Grand Mosque, asking Allah to protect Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi. A widely shared post described the gathering as a special prayer for the safety of the Two Holy Mosques.

The incident has drawn attention because Makkah and Madinah are Islam’s two holiest cities. Saudi authorities have also issued security alerts in Makkah and Jeddah amid recent regional attacks.
