A female online cab driver in Lahore has revealed how an armed passenger robbed her and forced her to transfer money before damaging her car and escaping.
Amber Ehsan, who has worked as an online cab driver since 2015, shared details of the incident while speaking to ARY News. She said the passenger asked her to stop at an isolated location before pulling out a weapon. He took her cash, mobile phone and other belongings, and then forced her to transfer additional money through the ride-hailing app. He later punctured both tyres of her car and fled.
Ehsan said the incident was among several difficult experiences she has faced during her years as a driver. She also recalled an earlier incident in which young passengers allegedly harassed her, damaged her clothing and recorded her without consent. She said the experience kept her away from work for about a month.
The single mother of three said she entered the online cab business during a period of financial hardship. She already owned a car and used her driving skills to support her family.
Ehsan said ride-hailing companies have safety measures for passengers, but women drivers also need stronger protection while working.
