The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched the “Each One Teach One” initiative to improve literacy and help more out of school children enter the education system.
The initiative was introduced by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department with the participation of Education Minister Arshad Ayub Khan, Secretary Muhammad Khalid, Director Jaffar Mansoor Abbasi and Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation Managing Director Qaiser Alam. The department is encouraging educated people to help others learn basic skills.
Arshad Ayub Khan said the initiative reflects the shared responsibility linked to Article 25-A of the Constitution. The article requires the state to provide free and compulsory education to children aged 5 to 16.
The minister also said the programme would support Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and quality education. Secretary Muhammad Khalid said greater community involvement could help expand access to education and improve literacy across the province.
The provincial government said in September that around 4.9 million children in KP were out of school.
