The federal government has removed the five-litre minimum purchase condition from the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme for fuel, allowing eligible motorcycle, rickshaw and three-wheeler users to buy smaller quantities of petrol.
The decision was approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after public feedback during the first 48 hours of the scheme’s nationwide rollout. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reviewed the scheme’s implementation at a National Steering Committee meeting on September 18.
Under the revised system, eligible users will receive a weekly fuel token worth Rs500. The token provides relief of Rs100 per litre and can now be used for petrol in any quantity, rather than requiring a five-litre purchase in one transaction. Fuel stations cannot deduct any amount or charge a service fee.
The government has also increased the eligibility age for motorcycles and three-wheelers from 15 to 20 years. The arrangement for cars with engines up to 800cc remains unchanged, with one 10-litre token available every 10 days.
Authorities have also ordered alternative arrangements for areas with limited internet access, including AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan, KP and remote rural areas.
