Karachi police have arrested a 57-year-old man accused of stealing cars parked outside mosques by posing as a worshipper. The suspect, identified as Insaf Ali from Ghotki, was traced with the help of CCTV footage, according to the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC).
Police said the suspect mainly targeted vehicles during Fajr prayers. Investigators found CCTV footage from a mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal showing him praying inside before allegedly stealing a Suzuki Mehran parked outside. The footage helped investigators identify and arrest him.
According to police, Insaf Ali travelled from Ghotki to Karachi specifically to steal vehicles and allegedly moved them out of the city before sunrise. The stolen cars were reportedly taken to Quetta, where they were sold. Police said they have also traced a suspected buyer in Quetta.
The AVLC said 14 vehicle theft cases are linked to the suspect. Police are continuing their investigation to identify other people allegedly involved in the network.
Authorities have advised owners of expensive vehicles to use more than one tracking device as an additional security measure.
