Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is looking for a new chief executive to lead the national carrier as it begins a new phase under private ownership.
The airline’s new management had moved to finalise the selection of a CEO, with former Ethiopian Airlines chief Tewolde Gebremariam previously shortlisted for the position. However, he later joined Air India as its CEO, meaning PIA’s search for leadership has continued.
PIA’s management control was transferred to an Arif Habib Corporation led consortium on June 29, 2026, after the completion of the first stage of the airline’s privatisation. The consortium acquired a 75% stake for Rs135 billion and also committed fresh funds for the airline.
The new CEO will take charge at a time when PIA is planning fleet expansion, new international routes and operational improvements. The airline has also been seeking faster delivery of Boeing 787 aircraft to support its future expansion plans.
