Islamabad authorities have started placing more than 1,000 shipping containers at key roads and entry points ahead of planned protests in the capital. The move is part of a wider security plan for demonstrations expected later this month.
The containers are being used to restrict movement on major roads and to secure sensitive areas, including the Red Zone and D-Chowk. Authorities also plan to block several entry and exit routes around Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The preparations are mainly linked to a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for September 27. Jamaat-e-Islami also held a protest march in the capital on September 20.
Transporters have raised concerns over the use of their containers and heavy vehicles. They say many vehicles carrying food, medicines and other goods have been held, creating delays and possible financial losses.
The security plan also includes thousands of additional police personnel from different regions to manage the situation and control access to the capital.
