Islamabad Police has requested Rs. 1 billion from the Ministry of Interior to cover expenses linked to security arrangements for upcoming protests in the capital.
The request comes as authorities prepare for a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march towards Islamabad on September 27. Police have already increased security measures at key entry points and placed containers at several locations.
Earlier, Islamabad Police had sought around Rs. 827 million for expenses related to planned protests. The amount was expected to cover container rentals, accommodation, food and transport for police personnel, as well as anti-riot equipment such as tear gas shells and rubber bullets.
The latest request raises the amount being sought to Rs. 1 billion as preparations continue for the expected demonstrations. Police expect a large number of people to travel towards the capital, prompting additional deployment and logistical arrangements.
The government has also taken other security measures in Islamabad and surrounding areas. Several major roads connecting Islamabad with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced closures or restrictions, while containers have been placed at important routes.
