Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa wrote a Quranic verse in the official guestbook of the United Nations during his visit to New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. He arrived in the city on September 21 with an official Syrian delegation.
On September 23, al-Sharaa wrote verse 105 from Surah At-Tawbah in the guestbook used by visitors to the UN Secretary-General. The verse begins, “And say, ‘Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds.’”
The handwritten entry was signed by the Syrian president and came during his first participation in the current UN General Assembly session. His visit included a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, where discussions covered Syria’s political transition, recovery and regional security.
Later the same day, al-Sharaa addressed the General Assembly. He spoke about rebuilding state institutions, unifying Syrian territory, economic recovery and lifting sanctions. He also discussed regional security and Syria’s position on the Golan Heights.
