Students at Iqra National University in Peshawar staged a protest on October 2 over fee-related concerns and problems with hostel facilities. The demonstration reportedly turned tense after private security guards opened fire during the protest.
According to reports, students were raising concerns about food quality and the lack of basic facilities at the hostel, including electricity and internet services. Students also said that their earlier complaints had not been properly addressed by the administration.
The situation escalated when security guards allegedly fired shots to disperse the protesters. Police officials, including the Hayatabad DSP and SHO, reached the university with additional personnel after receiving information about the incident.
Police said the situation was brought under control and that legal action would be taken against those responsible for the firing. Another report said the guards carried out aerial firing and that no injuries or deaths were reported. Police have started collecting evidence as part of the investigation.
