Goodbye Electricity Poles! Islamabad to Shift Power System Fully Underground

Islamabad’s electricity infrastructure is set to be shifted underground within the next two years in collaboration with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said.

Speaking in Barakahu on Wednesday, he outlined several development initiatives aimed at improving the capital’s infrastructure, restoring public spaces, and enhancing the city’s overall appearance.

Naqvi also said authorities were working to recover approximately 108 kanals of government land that had allegedly remained under illegal occupation for around 30 years.

The plans further include establishing eight museums dedicated to Pakistan’s national culture across approximately 150 acres, providing spaces to preserve and promote the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

The minister expressed concern over the condition of markets, saying many had turned into dumping grounds due to cleanliness issues. He said sanitation efforts were underway, while repairs were also planned for damaged roads in various sectors of Islamabad.

These initiatives are intended to improve urban facilities, address long-standing civic issues, and create a cleaner and more organised environment for residents and visitors.
