Saudi Arabia announces same-day visa processing for Pakistanis as energy ties expand

Saudi Arabia has announced same-day processing of visa applications from Pakistani citizens, alongside discussions on expanding energy investment between the two countries. The announcement came as Pakistan invited Saudi companies to develop commercial oil storage facilities under its newly approved tax-neutral bonded storage policy.

Visa facility aimed at business and closer contacts

Saudi Ambassador Dr Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqmi announced the visa processing facility during a meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik. He said it would encourage business activity, cultural exchanges and closer connections between people in both countries.

Al-Baqmi stressed the value Saudi Arabia placed on its longstanding relationship with Pakistan and offered assurances of support during difficult circumstances. Malik described mutual cooperation and shared interests as central to the relationship, saying their strategic defence partnership supported regional peace, stability and economic cooperation.

Pakistan opens door to Saudi oil storage investment

Malik outlined the approved bonded storage policy, which allows Saudi companies to establish commercial oil reserves and storage operations in Pakistan. He said these facilities could give Saudi Arabia another way to manage risks linked to maritime supply routes while reaching Asian markets.

The minister said the proposed arrangements could attract investment and broaden energy cooperation. The two sides agreed to strengthen collaboration across the following areas:

  • Petroleum and energy
  • Commercial oil storage and related infrastructure
  • Refinery upgrades
  • Mineral resources

Hub complex forms part of petroleum plans

The meeting also covered plans for a large petroleum storage and refining complex in Hub, Balochistan. The proposed development would have docking facilities for large crude oil tankers.

Such facilities could increase Pakistan’s ability to handle petroleum supplies and strengthen its potential role as a regional energy corridor. Refinery modernisation and further oil storage infrastructure were also part of the discussions.

Minerals forum invitation extends investment talks

Malik invited Saudi Deputy Minister for Mineral Resources Khalid to the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum in Islamabad, scheduled for November 12 and 13. The event will provide an opportunity to explore investment and cooperation in Pakistan’s mineral resources.

The invitation forms part of Pakistan’s efforts to attract Saudi investment in mining and minerals, extending the discussions beyond their established petroleum and energy ties.
