Govt. Increases Power Tariff by 1.68 per unit.

The federal government authorised a Rs1.68 per unit rise in electricity tariffs on Friday.

The cabinet approved the rise in power rate through a circulating summary, according to media reports citing sources.

The administration has sought consent from the federal cabinet to hike electricity tariffs by Rs1.68 per unit, or about 14 percent, in order to stay in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

The government raised electricity costs by Rs1.68 per unit after considering the summary given by the Ministry of Energy for approval.

The highest per-unit power tariff for domestic consumers is proposed at Rs24.33 per unit, according to the summary.

According to the summary circulated among cabinet members, the power tariff decision will result in a Rs72 billion reduction in electricity subsidies for the remainder of current fiscal year.
