Lieutenant General Nigar Johar has been named Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps (AMC), making her the first woman to hold the position, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.
In a statement, the military’s media wing claimed that during a ceremony at the AMC Centre to formally install Lt Gen Johar to the new rank, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa placed the insignia of the new rank on her uniform.
Lt Gen Johar’s appointment as the first female army official to wear three stars on her uniform, according to Gen Bajwa, is “certainly, a cause of enormous pride for the Pakistan Army and the country.”
AMC’s contributions to ensuring high standards of healthcare in peace and war were also acknowledged by Gen Bajwa.
