GIKI and UET teams representing Pakistan, acquire top positions in Huawei’s ICT Competition

Two Pakistani teams won during the regional finals of Huawei’s Middle East ICT Competition 2020, securing first and second positions.

“This year marked the fifth iteration of the Huawei ICT Competition, which included the competition for practice and the competition’s newly integrated innovation track… The innovation competition came to an end yesterday with Pakistan’s teams winning the ‘Best Application Project Prize’ and the ‘Excellence in Health and Wellbeing Award’ respectively from Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore,” the press release read.

It is said that Mohammad Inam, Uzair Ahmed and Gulfam Hussain were part of the GIK team supervised by Dr. Ghulam Abbas. They created a cloud-based AI-application named ‘Wear-tifically’ that will enable users to try on clothes virtually. During the pandemic, the application aims to make the experience of people shopping from home simpler.

The UET team, supervised by Dr. Mohammad Usman Ghani Khan with Shoaib Shabbir, Arooj Zaib and Umer Lodhi as members, built a robot to evaluate and enhance autistic people’s social interaction.

They created a syllabus of words that the robot was taught so that it could measure the child’s reaction by automating the speech therapy process for autistic children.
