Road to Makkah Project- Ready to be expanded by Pakistan

Ministry of Religious Affairs in Pakistan has put forward a summary before ECC- the Economic Coordination Committee just to expand this project of “Road to Makkah.”

The initiative of this project had already begun in the year 2018 just to make the Hajj journeys of the pilgrims easy from several Muslim countries to KSA- Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, under the initiative of this project, the immigration requirements of all will be completed at pilgrims’ airports like from origin to save their time on the arrival in Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan’s Government had implemented this pilot project in the year, 2019 at Islamabad International Airport as in the very first phase and it has now been planned to expand the facility of this project to even other cities like Karachi and Lahore.

As per the recent handout of ECC which was released in a meeting, the one of the prerequisites like for scaling up of this project is for KSA just to grant an exemption on import of the basic technical equipment in Pakistan.

Pakistan wanted to extend the Road to Makkah project last year as per the official sources but the plan had not properly materialized because the Hajj pilgrimages had already been performed on a very small scale due to the Coronavirus pandemic in the world.
