Samsung Introduces first Locally Produced Smartphone in Pakistan

After a year of implementing a mobile manufacturing programme, federal energy minister Hammad Azhar stated that roughly 70% of smartphones were produced in Pakistan.

This was stated by Azhar at the launch of Samsung’s first locally assembled smartphone, which was produced in a joint venture with Lucky Group at its Port Qasim plant.

He went on to say that Samsung’s debut was a result of the success of the DIRBS (Device Identification Registration & Blocking System) system, which was first introduced three years ago. The policy and important agreements for local mobile manufacturing were championed by the ministry.

The government’s next goal, he says, is to export locally produced cellphones from Pakistan. He also stated that over Rs135 billion has been collected by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in DIRBS taxes.
