Jason Roy, an England hitter, has withdrawn from the IPL 2022 season, citing the difficulty of remaining in the tournament’s bubble for a lengthy period of time.
Roy, who was signed by Gujarat Titans for INR 2 crore (USD 266,000) at the auction, informed the franchise of his decision last week, according to ESPNcricinfo. The Titans have yet to make a decision on a successor.
Roy, 31, recently had a solid outing in the PSL 2022, which was also played behind a biosecure bubble, where he was among the best batters in the competition and the leading run-getter for the Quetta Gladiators, who placed fifth in the six-team league despite only playing six matches.
Roy batted 303 times for an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22, with two fifties and a century en route to finishing second on ESPNcricinfo’s Smart Stats’ list of tournament MVPs.
“Everything that has happened in the globe over the last three years has built up and taken a toll on me,” Roy wrote in a longer Instagram message. “I believe it is only right that I spend some time with my family. In addition, throughout the next few months, I’ll be focusing on myself and my game in preparation for a hectic year.”
