Pakistan Businesses Forum (PBF) vice president Ahmad Jawad said on Tuesday that National Livestock Policy (NLP) to boost halal meat export.
Talking to the media, he said the first-ever livestock policy would increase the export of milk, butter, and other related products, adding that the annual export of livestock products was over Rs53 billion. The policy would ensure food security, poverty alleviation, and an increase in the incomes of people belonging to the sector, he added.
He said animal trade in Punjab was recorded at around Rs59.17 billion during Eid-ul-Adha, 2022. Sixty percent of people were associated with agriculture which contributes 11.6 percent to economic development. The livestock department would have to flourish in consonance with the agriculture sector so that NLP could help increase revenue generation, Jawad argued.
This national policy was drafted and approved by the PTI government and was reviewed by the Advisor to PM (Abdul Razzaq Dawood). The livestock policy was initially launched: in 2018 in KPK, 2019 in Balouchistan, and 20/21 in Punjab.
