Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to make SMS registration for the government’s petrol subsidy scheme completely free of charge to improve access for eligible citizens.
The decision is aimed at removing an additional cost from the registration process and making it easier for people to apply for the fuel relief programme.
The subsidy scheme covers motorcycles, rickshaws, three-wheelers and cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc. Eligible applicants can register by sending their CNIC and vehicle details to 9771 through a SIM registered in their own name.
The prime minister has also instructed relevant authorities to facilitate applicants throughout the registration process and ensure that citizens receive proper guidance about the scheme.
Authorities have been directed to increase public awareness so that eligible people can learn about the registration procedure and benefits available under the programme.
The government also plans to ensure smooth implementation of the subsidy scheme across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The move to make SMS registration free is expected to encourage more eligible vehicle owners to register without worrying about additional messaging charges.
Officials have been asked to coordinate the implementation process and address difficulties faced by applicants, with the aim of making the relief programme more accessible to citizens who rely on smaller vehicles for their daily transportation.
