The Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman, Mohammad Rizwan, has reportedly said he requested the team management have him dropped from the home Test series against New Zealand and have former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed play in his place instead.
In an interview with a local media outlet, Rizwan made this revelation. He claimed that his poor performance during the Pakistan team’s defeat in the home Test series against England made him feel unworthy of a spot in the starting lineup.
Rizwan acknowledged Sarfaraz’s rightful place in the side based on his outstanding domestic performance, despite Sarfaraz’s poor batting, which included 141 runs in six innings at an average of 23.50 and no fifty-scores.
He approached the coach and captain and asked to be dropped from the team, with two other players witnessing the conversation. He said that Sarfaraz has been performing in the domestic market and deserved his chance now. So he was happy to see Sarfaraz perform because he asked for his inclusion.
“Whoever performs best for Pakistan deserves to play,” he said.
Sarfaraz Ahmed performed admirably in the two Test matches he played against New Zealand, scoring 335 runs at an average of 83.75 and winning Player of the Series after scoring a century and a half in the second Test.
