The sole shelter home (Panahgah) in Rawalpindi, which gave the impoverished and most vulnerable people free food and shelter, was shut down by the caretaker administration of Punjab.
In the past, 100 people could stay at once in the three-story shelter house constructed near Fawara Chowk. The facility used to give the homeless who came to it free meals three times a day in addition to housing.
The board and banners were pulled down, the gates were locked, and sources claim that the homeless people and their possessions were ejected from the refuge home. The sources claim that all of the employees at the shelter were also let go from their jobs.
Imran Khan, a former prime minister, opened the shelter residence on December 16, 2019.
