The Spanish parliament on Thursday approved a bill that will provide teens more access to abortion and transgender rights while also making Spain the first nation in Europe to grant paid menstruation leave to employees.
Irene Montero, the minister of equality for Spain’s left-wing coalition government “United We Can,” was the main force behind the two legislation.
The menstrual leave provision will be funded by the government. According to Minister Irene Montero, this decision is momentous in terms of women’s health.
Moreover, this law has provided women with the right to paid absence during their periods. Women will be allowed to take leave while they are menstruating.
