Indian Parliament disqualifies Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified by Parliament as a member of the Lok Sabha of India after he was convicted by a Surat court in a defamation case on March 23.

According to the Hindustan Times report, the notice issued by the Lok Sabha said, “Rahul Gandhi… He is ineligible for a Member of The Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction. ‘‘

The Lok Sabha was adjourned an hour later. The Congress termed the decision as “political” and blamed the ruling political party BJP.

Gandhi was on Thursday convicted and sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a defamation case. However, the court granted him bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days so that he could appeal to the higher court.

BJP MLA Pranesh Modi had filed a petition in the court for his alleged remarks.

In the last Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi campaigned by calling himself a ‘chowkidar’ of the country and the people.

Rahul said in the rally that, It was about the deal related to Rafale aircraft. “You stole Rs 30,000 crore and gave it to your friend Anil Ambani. You stole 100% of the money. Chowkidar chor hai, Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi, Lalit Modi, Mallya, Anil Ambani and Narendra Modi. A gang of thieves. ‘

Rahul then said sarcastically,”I have a question, why are all these thieves named Modi, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more such Modis will come.”
