According to Bloomberg, Apple has reportedly developed folding screen prototypes to test internally, indicating that the company is working on a foldable iPhone. However, it does not appear that Apple has completed the concept – an iPhone Flip could be on the way, but it could be years away.
The iPhone Flip has been speculated for a long time, but we haven’t heard much about what may be internal discussions until now. According to the article, Apple has been experimenting with a variety of foldable screen sizes, the majority of which are unknown, with the exception of one that unfolds to a similar size as the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s 6.7-inch display.
To put it another way, the design sounds more like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, a clamshell foldable that expanded to the size of a standard smartphone…and then folded up to a compact shape twice as thick with half the footprint.
However, the iPhone Flip or foldable, whatever it ends up being, may never be: according to the article, testing may never result in a smartphone being released on the market. Even if it is, the main iPhone line is unlikely to be fully replaced.
