Elon Musk Plans to Give Every American Child One SpaceX Share Next Year

Elon Musk has announced plans to give one share of his space company, SpaceX, to every child in the United States next year. The billionaire shared the plan on X on Monday, October 19, 2026, saying it would be the first of several such initiatives.

The proposed giveaway could cover around 73 million children under the age of 18. Based on SpaceX’s closing share price of $146.03 on Friday, October 16, the total value of the shares would be approximately $10.7 billion. However, Musk has not explained how the shares would be distributed or how eligible children would be identified.

The announcement came after artificial intelligence company Anthropic revealed plans to commit 5% of its shares to a new fund supporting public benefit projects. Musk responded by suggesting that shares should be given directly to people instead of being placed in a fund.

SpaceX operates rockets, satellite services and other space-related businesses. Musk’s proposal has attracted attention because of its potential scale, but the plan remains short on practical details. It is not yet clear when in 2027 the distribution would begin or how the share transfers would work.
