Pakistan Become No.1 ODI Team First Time Ever

Pakistan has taken a commanding 4-0 lead over New Zealand in their five-match ODI series, after a 102-run victory on Friday at the National Stadium in Karachi.

This win has also propelled Pakistan to the number one spot in the ODI team rankings for the first time since the rankings were officially recognised by the ICC in January 2005.

Pakistan had a rating of 106 and were fifth in the ODI rankings before the start of the series, but their dominant performances at home have seen them jump to the third spot with a rating of 113.483, overtaking Australia and India.

Pakistan will need to maintain their winning momentum by securing a clean sweep with a victory in the fifth and final ODI on Sunday, 7 May, to stay on top of the rankings.

If they fail to do so, they will slip back to No.3 and Australia will reclaim their top spot. However, Pakistan will retain their number one ranking if they win the fourth ODI and the fifth match is abandoned or yields a no-result.
