Saudi Arabia Has Imposed a Fine of Rs. 500,000 and a Year in Jail for Filming People

Saudi Arabia has imposed a fine on anyone who records Ramadan fights and posts them online as amusing pranks.

Badr Bin Saeed Al Maliki warned that some people used to film others fighting, especially during Ramadan, and then post the videos online as amusing pranks, which is a defamation offence punishable by a year in prison and a fine of SR500,000, or both.

Residents were also warned not to take pictures or videos of other people without first obtaining their permission, as this is illegal.

People who violate the privacy of others or defame them by recording videos on camera and uploading the footage online face a hefty fine of SR500,000, a year in prison, or both, according to Saudi Cybercrime Law.
