61 Million Pakistanis Are Food Insecure, where 40% Food Prepared at Different Banquets Is Wasted

According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), developing countries waste 40% of food, resulting in an annual global waste of 1.3 billion tons of food. Almost a billion people are hungry, with one-third of them being children.

Pakistan is a Muslim-majority country. About 40% of the food served at various banquets is wasted because people hurry to eat and fill their plates with more food than they can eat. The trend of preparing 15, 20, or even 25 dishes for weddings and other banquets exacerbates the problem.

Pakistan is one of the world’s most food insecure nations, ranking 11th on the food security risk index for EXTREME RISK. 61 million Pakistanis are food insecure. Hundreds of people die each year in Pakistan as a result of malnutrition and other deficiencies. A woman who is malnourished is more likely to give birth to an anemic or underweight child.
