Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for criticizing an umpire’s decision on social media. After being given out in the first innings of the ICC World Test Championship final, Gill expressed his disagreement with the dismissal on Twitter.
This breach of the code resulted in a financial penalty and an additional 15 percent fine.
The entire Indian team was also fined 100 percent of their match fees because they bowled too slowly during the game. This means they lost all the money they would have earned from the final. Australia, their opponents, faced an 80 percent fine for the same reason.
According to the ICC, India was five overs short of their target, while Australia was four overs short. The ICC Code of Conduct states that players are fined 20 percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
