CDA Plans to Introduce Light Rail Transit System in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad is making plans to introduce a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system to address the city’s increasing transportation demands.

To secure funding for the project, the CDA’s planning wing has approached international donors such as the Asian Development Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). They have prepared a basic concept paper, but a consultant is required to conduct a detailed feasibility study.

Four potential routes have been identified for the LRT system, including a 30.5km route from Rawat to Faisal Mosque, a 13.7km route from N5 to Pakistan Monument, a 27.5km route from Rawat to 26 No Stop, and a 10.4km route from Pirwadhai to Faizabad. While the planning process has started, there are challenges in implementing the project due to the need for significant funding and political stability.
