Hammad Azhar, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Industries and Production, expressed the expectation that the smart phone manufacturing sector will outperform the country’s automotive industry in terms of export revenues in the next ten years.
Chairman Aslam Hayat Piracha, CEO Muzaffar Hayat Piracha, and Chairman Almas Hyder of the Engineering Development Board (EDB) also spoke at the event, as did President Mian Tariq Misbah of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and a large number of businessmen and industrialists.
Hammad Azhar said that the PTI government’s successful and well-thought-out industrial policies had resulted in an industrial revolution and rapid economic development.
To combat cell phone smuggling, the government studied anti-smuggling techniques from other countries and implemented DIRBS (Mobile Devices Identification, Registration, and Blocking System), which required no mobile phone to be enabled in Pakistan without clearing/paying all applicable duties and taxes.
