Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) Will Be Able to Report Election Results in Less Than 20 Minutes

Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting, held a press conference on Tuesday to discuss, among other items, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). According to the minister, once operational, the machines will be able to report election results in less than 20 minutes, rather than days.

“Take a look at what happened in Karachi and elsewhere during the recent elections. The ballots were misplaced, and the results took another day to be announced. Similar accidents occur at every election, but electronic voting machines will remove them,” the minister added.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will also set up an electronic voting system at Parliament House so that legislators and the media can see it and learn how it works. A technical officer will be stationed near the machine to answer any questions from legislators and the media.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the NIE produced Pakistan’s first electronic voting machine.
