Sindh Govt Bans Pillion Riding on 9th & 10th Muharram

In Karachi, a city in Pakistan, specific security measures have been implemented by the Sindh Home Department during the occasion of Muharram, which is the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar and holds significant religious importance for Muslims. In particular, the authorities have issued a notification imposing a ban on double riding on motorcycles for two specific days, the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The decision to ban double riding on motorcycles during these days is likely aimed at enhancing security and preventing potential incidents that could disrupt peace and order in the city. It is common for people to travel together on motorcycles during religious processions and events, but the authorities may have deemed it necessary to restrict this practice to minimize any risks and ensure public safety.

However, the authorities have also made exceptions in the ban to accommodate certain groups of individuals. Women, children, disabled individuals, and elderly people have been exempted from the prohibition on double riding. This indicates a consideration for vulnerable or special-needs groups who may require assistance or have mobility challenges, allowing them to travel together on motorcycles for their convenience.

Furthermore, the notification issued by the Home Department has not solely focused on double riding but also extends to other security-related matters. Specifically, permits for carrying weapons have been suspended, which means that individuals who were previously allowed to carry firearms will not be permitted to do so during this period. This measure is likely taken to prevent any misuse of weapons and maintain a peaceful environment.

Additionally, the Home Department has announced a complete ban on all types of gatherings and processions during Muharram, except for events specifically related to commemorating the religious significance of the month. This restriction is likely a precautionary step to avoid any potential incidents or disturbances that may arise during large gatherings or processions.
