As per sources, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has authorized 19 foreign and local companies to manufacture cell phones in Pakistan.
The PTA announced the decision on Twitter, saying it had given Mobile Device Manufacturing Authorizations to 19 international and local companies for the local manufacture of mobile devices (2G/3G/4G).
“To encourage manufacturers to establish plants in Pakistan, the government has adopted a comprehensive and supportive Mobile Manufacturing Policy, following which the PTA released Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Regulations in 2021,” according to the authority.
It further added that these innovations paved the way for the issuance of manufacturing authorizations, a key step in the country’s transition to a “Digital Pakistan.”
On Saturday, March 20, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Muhammad Hammad Azhar announced the establishment of three more smartphone manufacturing plants in the country.
