Ghulam Ghous, a Student of UET Gets Selected for Highly Coveted Coding Program by Google

Mr. Ghulam Ghous (2018-CS-31) from the Computer Science Department at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, has been selected for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program this year.

Google Summer of Code is a worldwide program that teaches students how to produce open source software. Mr. Ghulam Ghous was chosen for the Rocket.Chat project “Omnichannel Project: Live Chat Widget – Accessible Mode.” This initiative is particularly designed for people with disabilities in the realm of technology.

Given that such people are a part of society, and in order to make the live chat widget accessible to them, the project will build a user-accessible mode that will allow them to take use of the widget’s exciting features. This year, 4,795 students from 103 countries submitted 6,991 applications, with 1292 students from 69 countries being selected.

Every year, only 4 to 6 Pakistani students are selected for GSoC, with Mr. Ghulam Ghous being one of the three this year. This is a tremendous accomplishment for the university.
