Stolen iPhones From Pakistan Sold in this Country

It has been discovered that iPhones are also being resold after being reset, much like other mobile phones are in Pakistan.Similar to this, multiple similar iPhones have been found on people travelling from Dubai to Pakistan.

According to Irfan Baloch, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South, the South zone police cross-checked the IMEI numbers of 10,237 different mobile phones that were found or reported stolen in Karachi between November 2022 and July 2023.

The IMEI numbers of 1,230 instances in the South area led to 423 recovered mobile phones, and the IMEI numbers of 1,978 cases in the City district led to 345 recovered and 989 traced mobile phones.

According to the DIG, at least 22 mobile phones were smuggled from Balochistan into Afghanistan where they were sold in local marketplaces and subsequently seized. When the phones arrived in Quetta, they had Pakistani mobile SIM cards, which allowed for their identification.

DIG South Baloch also revealed that his team had recovered several stolen iPhones from Karachi that had been reset and put through complex procedures to overcome iCloud passcodes before being sold in the market in Dubai.

He further explained that the owners of the confiscated iPhones had originally bought them from neighbourhood shops in Dubai before bringing them to Pakistan.
