Call to Implement Ban on Child Labor Slavery

According to sources. A session was held on Saturday at a local Hotel in Karachi. arranged by Society for protecting the Rights of the Child (SPARC) to celebrate World Day Against Child Labor. In this session, they urged the provincial and federal government to take steps and implement a ban on child labor, which is the modern-day slavey. 

As per the official sources, many child rights activists and political figures were present at the conference arranged by SPARC, and all of them were agreed on this matter.

“Sindh has enacted Sindh Prohibition of Employment of Children Bill, 2017 which was collectively supported by all lawmakers beyond any political scoring”, said Sidra Imran, Sindh assembly PTI MPA.

“The government requires to take immediate action to increase the age of adulthood and employment to 18 years in all legislations and outlaw child domestic labor as a modern form of slavery,” said MQM MPA Mangala Sharma

 “We are in process of compiling data and other statistics regards to child labor with technical help from the civil society organizations. “Said Labor Department DG BUX Ali Maher

“child labor is one of the major issues related to child protection not only in Pakistan but every under developing countries. The Child Protection Helpline is active so if any case comes across related to child labor complaint may register there and it will be responded to accordingly.” Said Sindh Child Protection Authority (SCPA) Head Shamim Mumtaz.

Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) Executive Director Karamat Ali said “despite legislation, child labor has increased in the province because of weak and conflicting nature of the laws and policies. Without a uniform age for ‘definition of the child’ in all the laws, child labor can’t be ended.

Advocacy Manager Muhammad Kashif Mirza told that there is no actual data available in the country on Child Labour but it is likely to be around 12 million.
