Unbeaten Pakistan Team Secure Top Position in Asia Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifiers

The Pakistan hockey team finished their last pool match with a 5-5 draw against Malaysia. This means they are now at the top of the Asia Hockey5s World Cup Qualifiers. They didn’t lose any games in the tournament and have 13 points, with India close behind at 12 points.

In the exciting match against Malaysia, Rana Abdul Waheed scored three goals for Pakistan, and Mohammad Murtaza and Abdul Rehman each scored one. On the Malaysian team, Din Muhammad scored two goals, and Mat Syarman, Anuwar Akhimullah, and Ishak Arif scored one each.

Malaysia is in third place on the points table, followed by Bangladesh, Oman, and Japan in fourth, fifth, and sixth places, respectively.In their earlier matches, Pakistan beat India and Bangladesh with scores of 5-4 and 15-6, respectively.

The Pakistani team is led by head coach Olympian Wasim Feroze and manager Major Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan.

There are two groups: the Elite pool with India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, Oman, and Bangladesh, and the Challenger pool with Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran.

The tournament will continue with crossover matches between teams from both pools, and the top teams will qualify for the first-ever FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Oman in 2024.
